Slacktivism

Slacktivism.png
Slacktivism is about pretending you're fully woke, but never being able to measure up. If you are fully woke, you are soon out of business.
Woke Corporate Slacktivism is when corporations put leftist agendas above maximizing shareholder value and their customers needs. It fails more than it works, because most people recognize that they're insincere, and they can never be woke enough to appease the ideologues. So their "allies" will turn on them, after they alienated everyone else.

What's with companies losing their minds in order to virtue signaling? They don't seem to get that while they might do some short-term virtue signaling, to the never-satisfied crowd, it won't last long. They'll be hungry for more, or write them off as insincere/committed enough. So they either get more and more extreme, or they come to the realization that they are the rich, that the slacktivists want to eat.

Get Woke, go broke isn't always true -- but it often is.

  • Academy Awards - Hollywood celebrates a lack of intellectual diversity while demanding more political correctness. While Political Correctness has sucked the drama and interest out of what was already a boring idea: industry wonks patting other industry wonks on the ass, over their ability to play make-believe and pretend to be people more important than they are.
  • Amazon, Confederacy and Antifa - Bezos doesn't seem to mind selling hate on Amazon. Well, left wing hate. They blocked history and the confederate flag as "too controversial" (a historical event that happened) -- but antifa stuff was sold well after they proved themselves to be a domestic terrorist organization.
  • Box Office Bombs - Another way to measure success is not just with audience approval, but with market appeal: how well did it do at the box office. There's often critical praise, and even niche audience that sees it and reviews it still loves it, but the fact is it's so bad that nobody outside a small niche wants to see it. (People vote with their wallet and time, and never watch the stinker).
  • Bros (2022) - Far left Gay Film flops at the box office, bigoted writer blames homophobia and not a bad film/story or woke fatigue. Other Gay Films did far better... and the box office bombed so hard, that even gays didn't seem to want to see it -- so blaming homophobia is stupid. Poorly timed release: people are sick of woke LGBT floggings, so not going to watch for escapism.
  • Buffalo Wild Wings - Buffalo Wild Wings has a sort of gun-ban since like 2004 on Corporate owned stores, but individual franchisees get to set their own rules. This issue re-lights up when there's a shooting, robbery, etc., and one of their stores.
  • CNN - CNN was shocked to learn that despite the lowest ratings in Cable News while free, people wouldn't pay for the same content w/CNN+. With fewer subscribers than some High Schools, after only 3 weeks, it was finished quicker Jeffrey Toobin on a zoom call. And CNN stood for Coprophagia News Network…
  • California IPOs - California noticing the obvious; that anti-Business practices are going to leave a mark (on their bottom line). Now one year is not a trend, but it is the first thing to wake them up to a trend that's been happening with people voting with their feet. In this case, 2022 IPO's are 1/9th of 2021, they're not down in Texas, and that's going to impact tax revenue.
  • Colin Kaepernick - Colin was a pretty good QB until the opposition learned his tricks and shut him down. With a failing career, an SJW Girlfriend convinced him to go woke for attention/cause, and he started kneeling in tribute to Marxist anti-Americanism. He lost sponsors, and wasn't a good brand for a new team. But Nike liked it. As others started copying his failure, he brought ruination down on the NFL.
  • Dick's Sporting Goods - How to shoot yourself in the dick? Be a Sporting Goods store named Dick's, alienate a large swath of your customer base and suppliers who are hunters and gun owners, by replacing the Constitution with your hypocritical corporate ethics. Then lose $150M or 1.7% of annual revenue as a consequence (first year alone).
  • Disney - Disney was as American as apple-pie. But alas, the times they are a changin', and not purely for the better. More tolerance is good. Intolerance towards America and common sense? Not so good. Woke is about tearing down American values, not inclusivity. And like Hollywood, Academia, and Tech, they caught the Woke Cancer.
  • Dixie Chicks - I don't care that ignorant country singers have an opinion on politics (or the Iraq War). But voicing it on foreign soil, while we're in a war, is dumb timing: especially when your audience is Country Music. Since doing it, Dixie Chicks lost many fans, and hasn't been the same.
  • Doc Maries - What if you opened a Lesbian bar in Portland, but weren't woke enough for Portlandia? Doc Marie's knows. They're temporarily closed because despite a great grand-opening and the obvious need for a Lesbian bar in Portland, a few wokesters decided they weren't work enough. Then demanded it become a collective. And thus, the community needs to go somewhere else.
  • ESPN - ESPN was told by common sense not to politicize sports, that they were just entertaining escapism. They chose to go the other way. Now they're damn near going bankrupt as viewership is way down, advertising is way down, and the trends for the future look way down. So what did we learn?
  • Emmy Awards - The TV's Oscar's has seen their viewership crash over the last decade to 1/3rd the number that used to watch (18M to <6M viewers). Why is that? Well they alienated over 1/2 their audience with Woke Bullshit. The TV shows are boring rehashes of older ideas with wokeness injected in them, and the stars will predictibly lecture viewers. What could do wrong?
  • Enterprise, Hertz, and Avis Rental Cars - After the Parkland, Florida school shooting, Enterprise, Hertz, and Avis rental cars all decided to drop the NRA as a discounted provider. No one I knew with an NRA membership had ever used the service, or knew it existed - so I don't think it'll matter or lead to backlash, because no one cares.
  • HBO - I watch TV for either entertainment or education. HBO is OK on the first, and anathema on the second. Overpriced, yet it has a few shows I like. But it funds a deluge of crap and leftist disinformation. I tend to activate, binge, then deactivate to keep from over-sponsoring leftist dogma.
  • Handsome Her - A man-hating lesbian-owned vegan cafe in Melbourne, Australia made headlines in 2017 by charging an extra 18% “man tax”... and they went out of business after less than two years. Turns out people just wanted good food more than a lectures and division, so they chose to get their food somewhere better.
  • Intuit - Intuit makes the bad choice to punish companies for selling products they don't like (Guns). It cost them customers and reputation. It is certainly in a private companies purview to choose their customers -- but there's a responsible or douchey way to do it. And it's also within the customers purview to choose the companies they do business with. So the lash gets the backlash.
  • LeBron James - Moronic Philanthropist hypocrite, that supports Genocidal Chinese while lecturing the rest of us on civil rights. He attacked the Hong Kong freedom fighters, claims he doesn't like to get political but attacks Trump voters as uneducated (like him?) Represents Nike and Child Labor abuses.
  • Kelloggs - Kellogs was founded on a prudish puritan, so naturally "Kellogg’s is launching an LGBT-themed cereal so you can start your day with maximum gay… If you’re a fan of breakfast and being gay, we have grrrrreat news for you – Kellogg’s is launching an LGBT-themed cereal". And to think, we’ve been eating straight, cisgender cereal all this time.
  • Levi Strauss - Because it was such a disaster for other companies that did slacktivism, Levi Strauss (and president Chip Bergh) has decided to stick their noses in Gun Control issue to alienate their employees, investors and customers.
  • Levis - Levi's was as American as Blue Jeans and Apple Pie. But they got woke. Once you catch that cultural cancer, soon you're suppressing free speech, shipping all your jobs to China, you support athletes that hate America, you deal with Human Rights abusing countries, and you fire employees for trying to defend civil liberties.
  • Memes/Woke - Memes about being Woke, Slacktivism, and the abject hypocrisy and lack of introspection required by Wokeness.
  • Merriam-Webster - When a dictionary caves to mass hysteria, their future as a purveyor of language/truth dims.
  • NBA - The NBA decided since Politicizing Sports worked so poorly for the NFL and ESPN, that they wanted some of that. So first, Daryl Morey (General Manager of the Houston Rockets) tweeted about supporting the Hong Kong protestors. That's a goodonya. The Colin Kaepernick of the NBA (LeBron James) decided to add his ignorance to the mess by claiming that we shouldn't politicize Sports, after he already had a few times.
  • NFL - The NFL used to be all about a football monopoly. Then the most ignorant players started rising up to politicize the sport. Instead of recognizing this would alienate the audience, the management went along. And the ratings, viewership and love of the sport, all decayed -- which is what the Marxist puppet-masters wanted all along. Nothing above the state/party and remaking us into the USSA.
  • National School Board Association - The NSBA sent a letter asking the FBI to go after parents complaining about CRT/Trans activism as if they were terrorists. After that, 25 different states School Board withdrew membership from the organization.
  • Nike - Nike decided to go all corporate slacktivism with a variety of efforts that don't seem to work out well for them. I certainly don't disagree with their right to hold a stupid opinion, but while we should all have free speech (and expression), we shouldn't have freedom from the consequences of those stupid opinions.
  • Panera Bread Company - AKA the St. Louis Bread Company, was once a fine eating establishment. Then an SJW became CEO and they keep getting worse. In some stores, they tried "pay what you want" that failed miserably. They cut portions over time (to address calories, or just cost management). While they're not bad, they're a shadow of what they once were.
  • Rachel Dolezal - White chick, that was pretending to be black, to work at the NAACP. "Trans-racial" accidentally proved Black Privilege. She was let go from her instructor position teaching Africana studies at Eastern Washington University, and removed from her post as chair of the Police Ombudsman Commission in Spokane over "a pattern of misconduct. Now does porn.
  • Ricky Gervais - It might be his leftist bonafides, but Ricky Gervais has told the self-important Hollywood elites at the Golden Globes how the rest of the country (and world) see them and their sanctimonious speeches at masturbatory award shows. He's a rare lefty that seems to get that leftism can go too far, when it starts trying to censor and bully and preen.
  • SF Giants - Aubrey Huff, SF Giants first basemen and outfielder, and the most valuable player that brought them to 2010 World Series, publicly supported Donald Trump. For that, the Giants Management decided to NOT invite him to their reunion. Spousal abuse by Larry Baer is a forgivable sin to the Giants, but being a Trump fan is not.
  • Salesforce - Salesforce’s CEO, Marc Benioff decided to put idiocy above business, and attack part of his base by enacting a policy that companies who sell semi-automatic weapons can't use its software. This can only alienate or lose them customers like Walmart, BassPro/Cabelas, Turners, and Academy -- not to mention any companies that value the Constitution or law of the land.
  • Shopify - Shopify says it will no longer allow them to sell some firearms and parts -- so their platform no longer welcomes any of the 600,000 businesses that use them to sell their goods, if those businesses also respect the Constitution and gun rights.
  • Slacktivism/Gun Control States - Gun Control states did enough dicky things, that gunmakers have moved manufacturing to Free America. This costs the fascist states direct taxes, jobs, people, those people's income and real-estate taxes, opportunities, security (now they have to import) and so on. The taxpayers of the state might not be bright enough to realize how much it cost them, but it cost them.
  • Slacktivism/NC Police Department - Woke Justine Jones (Black) took over Kenly, North Carolina; the Police chief, all 6 cops, and a few others all quit in protest. Resignation included, “due to a hostile work environment now present in the town of Kenly, I do not believe progress is possible.” She was fired for her last job, and sued them for race/gender discrimination.
  • Snopes - Snopes was created by California couple Barbara and David Mikkelson to covert alt.folklore.urban newsgroup into a website. Despite a cabal of liberal editors, most of Snopes isn't that bad... but mostly fair is synonymous with unfair, and it is far from the paragon of objectivity some pretend. Virtually all errors or biases lean left, thus all sources that rely on them lean the same way.
  • State Farm/Gender Cool - State Farm rolled out LGTBQIA2S+ Propaganda to Kids along with GenderCool organization, which included conversations with children (age 5+) about being Transgender and Non-Binary. "Like a creepy neighbor, State Farm is there". They get major backlash, and their agents made them retract and gain some sanity. People want insurance, not indoctrination.
  • The Daily Show - American late-night talk show, that briefly became a cult icon for the pothead and far-left crowd. This is kind of a misnomer, since its ratings never competed well with other Late Shows. But for Comedy Central? It was still higher than much of the rest of the drivel. Stewart never claimed it was news, but his audience sure thought it was.
  • Ulta - Ulta (Makeup) decided to go woke with Trans-podcast and activism. And gets boycott Ulta trending in response. I'm not sure it's just the pro-trans stuff, but they chose and over the top activist, with a side of TERF screaming fanatics for anyone that play along with the over-the-top and then some act, that's more polarizing.
  • United & Delta Airlines - After Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, United and Delta airlines virtue signaled their opposition to the Constitution by removing the NRA's group travel program. The NRA pointed out this "benefit" wasn't used much anyways. (I never knew). But a bunch of companies ganging up for publicity makes me think less of them, not more.
  • Wayfair - In January 2021, Wayfair sided with the liberal mob and dropped MyPillow products from their online store. Liberals celebrated. In 20 months after that, Wayfair's stock has dropped over 80%. Most of this was because of bad debt exposure -- but certainly going political, alienating part of your audience, and irritating customers and suppliers hasn't helped.
  • Wharton School of Business - Under Get Woke, Go Broke, we have the Wharton School of Anti-Business creating DEI and ESG Majors -- anti-Diversity, and Anti-Environmental Degrees respectively.
  • Willie Nelson - Willie Nelson unwisely tied his brand with a snowflake drunk-driving hacker named Beto O’Rourke. This enraged a bunch of Nelson's fans. Country Singer supporters aren't usually supportive of anti-2A, Marxist idiots. And entertainers should know enough to stay out of opinions that irk their fans.
  • Woke Army - Biden (and Obama) politicized the Military and made it woke (starting at the top). Now recruitment has fallen off, and missing goals. Men that are attracted to the military are attracted to the role: to get discipline, learn camaraderie, focus on the objectives (protecting American interests). Transgender environmentalism to create a new world order, is off target.
  • YETI Coolers - YETI Coolers cut off ties to the NRA Foundation (the shooting sports division), but wouldn't say why (coincidentally timed with Delta and REI dropping the NRA after school shooting). The NRA's open letter, lead to a backlash amongst shooting enthusiasts. Yeti claimed NRA/shooters misunderstood. The NRA's reply to that sounded a lot like: {cough:bullshit!}.

Conclusion[edit | edit source]

I don't see how picking fights that you don't need to will play to your advantage or add to stockholder value. But SJW's have a chronic need to proselytize. In the meantime they are never going to satisfy (for long) the other virtue signalers -- so it's a short term gain at best... while they are irritating a percentage of their long term customers, who have longer term memories (e.g. a long term loss). Woke is complaining about the mote in your brothers eye, and ignoring the log in your own... and it just begs for the hypocrisy police to rub your nose in it.

Woke
DietWoke.jpg
Lefty-terms usually mean the opposite of English. Woke derived from being "awoken" to social injustices like classism, racism, anti-LGBTQ. But the origins/money/support came from Marxism, and the real agenda isn't about fixing the injustices, it is about advancing their agenda -- which is dividing us on intersectional lines, so the Marxists can come to power by exploiting that division. To be "woke" means you're asleep to what the true goal is.

Terms
We need to agree on what terms mean. This used to be easy, before SJW's/Marxists started Orwelling our language.

Woke
Leftist terms mean the opposite. "Woke" means asleep about the true agenda: it's Marxism wrapped in Social Justice costume.

Social Justice Warriors
SJWs: When you are not able to refute the arguments, bully people into silence. Social Justice is injustice.
