After an article, we usually want a footer (aka Bottom Template) that has some metadata about the article that we didn't include in the top, and sort of tells us things like where we can go to find more, references/citations, or how to get back to the source articles (that pointed us here).
Between the start of the template: {{-Item And the end of the template: }} there are a individual lines broken by a Pipe chacaceter: | and each line sets a value. These lines/values would look like the following.

|Links={Just a list of references/citations that weren't included in the article body}
|See also={Optional section that can tell us where related information is}
|Cat={a list of [[Category:X]][[Category:Y]] that tells this article to be included in Pages/Articles X and Y, or pages that want to include more on those topics }.

And so on. These fields are Metadata -- meta means after/beyond or in this case "about", so metadata is data that provides information about other data. It's not the contents of the article, but it helps users find the article, or find more information that the article body discussed.
