A Discovery of Witches

If you like shows about Witches, Vampires and Demons and thought that would make a good romance novel: this is the series for you.

Melissa likes the Genre, so I've watched all the sparkly vampire type movies. 90210 meets time traveling witchcraft/vampires... and few demons. This was totally a romance novel (I could see shirtless Fabio on the cover). Girl meets boy and discoverers her powers, and a little beauty and the beast mixed in.

It's cliché, derivative, and watchable enough. Better than Hallmark, or the CW, but never gets away from what it is. It manages a generous 83/79 on Rotten Tomatoes.

So the genre is pretty well explored: what if witches and vampires live amongst us? But it adds more complex social dynamics between the two cases, with the 3rd class demons getting the short shrift.

There are few surprises... but it's not horrible for what it is. And it's good enough to watch -- if you like this kind of series. I don't hate 'em, and it didn't have that many cringe worthy parts (beyond the premise) -- so I give it a conditional recommend, if you're looking for something to watch, and have gone through your A-list items.
