2019.08.21 Buying Greenland, dissing Denmark

I can believe Trump was just having a hissy about being rebuffed... but it seems at least as likely that NYT/CNN/WaPo were going off half-cocked, again, and there might be more to the story (like "Hands up, don't shoot").

My left of center friends all raged at what a dumb idea it was, because CNN/NYT/WaPo told them so... not one of them was informed that Russia and China had both made plays for bases there in the past, and that would make a new Cuban Missile crisis on a much bigger scale. Or that it has many great natural resources that make it valuable, and underutilized.

Sometimes you buy something because you want to deny it to your competition, other times it is for leverage to sell to them for something more important, and other times it is for the underlying value that no one else has recognized.

The rational Journalists (or just human beings) wouldn't take every opportunity to jab the President... what they'd do is ask why. Ask the administration (and President), ask specialists/business people, ask foreign policy wonks. If someone is putting political capital out there, there might be a good reason. What the left did is marry themselves to the idea that it's a dumb idea (because Trump said it) without doing their basic research. Thus if anyone else acquires it in the future, it shows what flaming idiots they are.

We also don't know this was a big diss (disrespect)... for all we know, there were diplomatic discussions and it was part of the agenda for months, and the Danes pulled it off in a poor way and slighted us. So it is idiotic and anti-American to assume that we're always wrong, before doing basic homework.

I could believe Trump was just raging on a half-cocked idea. But even if true, I suspect there's a whole lot of interesting context as to why he wanted it, and what the value is. But we'll never know because the media is more interested in cheap shots than doing their jobs and finding out the what/when/why of the situation.
