Raising Canes

Good, but highly popular. Lines are bigger than they should be.
This is a popular chicken finger place, that is pretty good. Not outstanding, just good. But the lines are often extraordinary in Houston, and elsewhere I've seen them. Kind of like Chik-fil-a.

I tried it because there are always long lines for the drive-thru or walk-in. They don't offer much for vegetarians, so my wife has no interest in going.

My take aways:

  • The chicken is good/taste/fresh -- but it's not highly breaded. That gives you a lot of chicken flavor, but not much crunch or the depth of salt and spices that you get in many other chicken fingers.
  • The chicken fingers were smaller than most other places. I suppose that increases the surface area (and decreases the calorie count on a per finger basis). But at 1/2 to 1/3rd the side of what I was used to, it was a cute snack to have 2. Whereas, that would have been enough for me at another chicken place.
  • The Canes Sauce was a spicy thousand island. Good enough for dipping, but nothing outstanding. I tend to prefer something with sweet & spicy, or sweet or spicy profiles. So good but meh.
  • I could see this as being popular for parents, as kids have more subdued palettes. And if it makes the kids happy, and isn't offensive to the parents? That's a win.
  • Mine was new, clean, efficient service, and nice enough. It was pretty well run, efficiency wise.

So for me, it was forgettable. I didn't dislike it, in fact it was good enough, nice, clean, fast, and fairly tasty -- just not memorable or anything I'd go out of my way for. If I was going A-to-B, it's certainly a viable option, if there's nothing else around.

🗒️ Note:
I sometimes use ApplePay and an AppleCard, which are both pretty secure payment methods. I happened to use it for Raising Canes. That night I got 3 charges on my AppleCard that were all rejected by the bank. (Suspicious activity). And they were indeed not me. The only other recent charges were things like Apple iCloud services, or Apple purchases. So either someone held onto the information for weeks before trying it, or this store has a problem with someone stealing Credit Card info. I relayed that to the corporation, so it could be addressed.
