RINO is Republican In Name Only. Overused pejorative for a Democrat running on the Republican Ticket.
RINO is Republican In Name Only. Democrats on the Republican Ticket. Basically, it means you are on the Republican ticket, but undermine the interests that are popular with mainstream Republicans.

This pejorative barb, can refer to TDS (Trump Derangement Syndrome) sufferers: aka those willing to undermine the party as long as Trump is president. But thats' a different group.

A better description is often the folks willing to compromise with the left on big spending, boondoggle social programs, debt increases, amnesty, abortion, gun control, and other hot-button issues... way too much, enthusiastically. As a lot of those issues are fundamental to the Republican Party.

The term does get misused a lot for just the moderate republicans. Republicans being the bigger tent party, and not having as many litmus tests, normally has more divergent factions. And in order to get anything done in Washington, you need to compromise... and that usually means compromising your principles on one thing, to get something more important somewhere else. So the lines get fuzzy.

But face it, at some point if you're a big-spending, pro-amnesty, pro-Big Government, pro-abortion, pro-Impeachment for doing nothing wrong, pro-Green, America-Last establishment kind of globalist (Liz Cheney, Mitt Romney, John McCain), or more interested in sabotaging the faction of Republicans that you don't like, than looking out for the interests of your constituents -- then at some point you do cross over as a turncoat... and why are you even on this ticket?
