Those that claim the Founding Fathers would have opposed modern weapons are either hyper-partisan (biased), or they are profoundly ignorant on the Founding Fathers. You can disagree with their 18th century view of the world all you want, but even a cursory understanding of their views is that they felt the biggest threat to freedom and property was the government: based on their life's experiences of just having to risk everything to revolt against the British Empire.
