Igno-Arrogance

Igno-arrgorance is often a consequence of the Dunning-Kruger effect, or the need for clique approval.
Knowledge may not make people humble, and arrogance doesn't make people ignorant: that stuff comes from deeper down. But a little knowledge gives people a bravado that more knowledgable people often don't have (called the Dunning-Kruger effect). And arrogance makes people not question their righteousness. So there's a correlation, even if it's not causal.

  • 2008.04.14 Bitter Clingers quote - Democrats screw up when they accidentally tell the truth., ... it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy toward people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.Democrats screw up when they accidentally tell the truth (about what they think, causes they support, or how they fell about anyone that disagrees). A quinticential example is the famous Obama quote towards the smaller communities that felt under-represented, and Obama referred to them as: "Bitter Clingers"..., ... it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy toward people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations. ~ Barack Obama
  • 2020.01.27 CNN on Trumpers - CNN (Don Lemon) and his guests making fun of Trump voters and laughing.CNN (Don Lemon) and his guests making fun of Trump voters, is like Hillary and the famous "Deplorables", or Obama and the God/Gun Clingers quotes. Sad that they aren't informed enough to know how hypocritical and ignorant that they are. But if progressives could grow, they'd grow to be moderates or libertarians.
  • Deplorables - Democrats screw up when they accidentally tell the truth. Hillary did that when she referred to Republicans as "Deplorables".Democrats screw up when they accidentally tell the truth (about what they think, causes they support, or how they fell about anyone that disagrees). The quinticential example is the famous Hillary gaffe with Trump voters, "I call the basket of deplorables. Right? Racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic, you name it."
  • Dunning-Kruger - A little domain knowledge gives you outsized confidence. The loudest are often the least informed and most insecure. In the field of psychology, there is the truism that those with the least knowledge often have the most self-assuredness and confidence about the topic: e.g. they have illusory superiority and mistakenly assess their cognitive ability as greater than it is.
  • Gun Controllers - A short list of some of the "smartest Gun-Controllers in the room".This is a short list of some of the "smartest Gun-Controllers in the room". This isn't just "gotcha" type mistakes, but fundamental failures to understand the basics of what they're talking about. I've been looking for a gun-controller that could talk about the basic parts and operation without sounding like an idiot and I have yet to find one, but I'm only 58 years old.
  • Guns and Igno-arrogance - Really dumb smart people are folks that think knowing one thing, translates to things they know nothing about.Really dumb smart people are folks that are good and one thing (software, science, accademia...) and think that being a domain expert in one area, translates to things they know nothing about (politics, the real world, etc). Then they are particulary arrogant because they know how smart they are. So they can't fathom they are out of their depth.
  • Knowledge makes people humble - Arrogance makes people ignorant.Knowledge makes people humbleNamespaces. Arrogance makes people ignorant.
  • Progressives ruin everything - There are some reasonable ideas, that taken too far, become very unreasonable. Progressives will advocate for both.If your voices are extremist activists that exaggerate or mischaracterize (or don't understand) a problem, and see the only solution as fascism (State control of private business or the individual), and they see everything as black or white (extremes), it will always end poorly. Every reasonable idea will either be blocked, or taken too far.
  • Tea Party - The railroading of the TeaParty is a great example of FakeNews. Media crumbling trust started in 2009.The railroading of the TeaParty is a great example of FakeNews, either through gross incompetence or more likely leftist malice. It started simply as bipartisan anti-tax, anti-spending, and anti-debt. But they got presented as racist, hyper-religious, far-right extremists, not to mention mocking them as "tea baggers" (testicle suckers).
