How to copy reviews from old site to new site.
This is a step-by-step guide on how to copy an article from the older iGeek format to the newer iGeek Format.

~ Aristotle Sabouni

Open old[edit | edit source]

  1. On both sites if you go Under the Reviews Menu (at the top) to Movies (You will see there's a lot more reviews in the old site than the new one)
  2. So click on the title of "Arrival" article on the old site. (It is the first movie that isn't on the new site but is on the old)
  3. That article displays. Click the "edit" link (at the top), and you'll get a text field with this:
<includeonly> A good but slow “first contact” sci-fi thriller, written about a cunning linguist who slowly discovers how to communicate with aliens. The movies style is very first person, and doesn’t explain a lot as you go — you have to let them leak reveals in dribs and drabs. It gets there, but it’s certainly no Independence Day or Aliens action sci-fi film. There was some Hollywood clichéd stereotyping, but the larger arch of the story made up for it.</includeonly>
<noinclude>A good but slow “first contact” sci-fi thriller, written about a cunning linguist who slowly discovers how to communicate with aliens.... {lots of copy... blah blah}...

Create New[edit | edit source]

  • On the new iGeek, we're going to go to: https://igeek.mywikis.wiki/wiki/Form:Item (Create a new Item using the form for item).
  • This form just wants a name for a new page. The name on the old site was "Arrival (2016)" -- so we enter that, and click the [Create or Edit] button.
    • (You can type it in, or copy paste from the old page).

Fill out the form[edit | edit source]

Now we just fill out the form with stuff from the old page.

  • Image = "File:" + Arrival.png
  • 1Liner = {just a single line description of the review}... in this case, the first line of text is a good summary, in others, a little summarizing is fine. (It's easy to fix later, so don't worry about perfect)...
    • "A good but slow “first contact” sci-fi thriller, written about a cunning linguist who slowly discovers how to communicate with aliens."
  • Summary = {A little longer description of the review)... in this case, everything up to the </includeonly> is fairly good... sometimes it will need to be shortered... a few lines or a small paragraph is good.
    • "A good but slow “first contact” sci-fi thriller. The movies style is very first person, and doesn’t explain a lot as you go — you have to let them leak reveals in dribs and drabs. It gets there, but it’s certainly no Independence Day or Aliens action sci-fi film. There was some Hollywood clichéd stereotyping, but the larger arch of the story made up for it."
  • Author = Aristotle Sabouni {I use my real name as a nom de plum).
  • Created =
    • if there's a "written: XXXX.XX.XX" field in the old article (near the last line), then use that, in this case "2016.11.19"
    • if there isn't a "written:" field in the old article, we can get a date by being fancy... you don't have to worry about it. We can fix it in another pass. But the shortcut is: (a) copy/paste the URl to a new tab (b) replace "action=edit" in the URL with "action=history" and hit return. (c) the lowest (oldest) date is the date it was created -- "2017-04-13"
  • Body = {replace all the middle text with everything up to the references} in the old article.
    • Replace this -

Show People

A good but slow “first contact” sci-fi thriller, written about a cunning linguist who slowly discovers how to communicate with aliens.

It’s traditional harder core sci fi, in that it’s very cerebral, and leaves a lot to the imagination, with a large helping of “what does this mean”, instead of more gosh things like actions or answers. The viewer will have questions, and possibly an interest in watching it again, just to catch the details and nuances they slept through the first time. As well as spurring conversations, “do you think this meant this, or that?”

The movies style is very first person, and doesn’t explain a lot as you go — you have to let them leak reveals in dribs and drabs, which plays well for the story. The suspense is mostly in the little things, with a few bigger reveals as you go. Meaning some people will really appreciate this style of antici…. pation and pa…. tience. It gets there, but it’s certainly no Independence Day or Aliens action sci-fi film. Think more Close Encounters as opposed to Star Wars. There was some Hollywood clichéd stereotyping, with the military guys being shoot first (“let’s nuke em”) types. But the larger arch of the story, and the other details and nuances made up for it.

That being said, I really liked the movie (even if it isn’t for everyone), despite a little dragging in the beginning — it makes you think about the world with new appreciation. So it was one of the better movies of the year for me. And the Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 93%/82% (audience/reviewer) — which makes perfect sense. If you look at it as a reviewer and as the art of story telling, it was exceptional. For pure entertainment, it won’t be everyone’s cup of tea — but if you like Early Grey, you’ll be immensely satisfied.
  • Links = {what was in references before}

  • Categories = {what was in a before}, use comma's to separate, but ignore the if there was one before. <- note this is case sensitive
    • "Movies" and "Reviews" <- as you type in this field (and hit tab to end) it will create a little button out of each category

Done[edit | edit source]

  • That's it, you hit "Save Page" and it creates the page for you. Then hit "Refresh" link (upper right once). And a page is done.
  • If you click on the "Movies" at the bottom of the finished page, it will take you up one level... and if you refresh that page, this newly added article should pop up in there (if everything was done right).
