Articles about France, a country with one of the richest histories in a world, class, style, and a lot of, "how not to".
Articles about France, a country with one of the richest histories in a world. While much of it is a "how not to", they also have a class, style, and culture that is unique, arrogant, and stylish. Many things I write on are the lesser known and less complimentary. That's not out of malice, but I find the more arcane more interesting, even when it's not flattering.

Here's a few articles on France:

  • America made Saddam - During the mid 2000's it was popular among the dim of wit, and big of mouth, to claim that Saddam was created by America. That kind of rhetoric tends to come from the uninformed, the trolls, or both. Saddam was never "our boy" like some claim.
  • Dunkirk (2017) - This wasn't bad, but it was a bit of mismanaged expectations. Many will go in expecting a Historical War movie and see a vignette movie telling 3 overlapping stories. A British soldier fleeing the german advance, a British boater coming to save them, and a RAF pilot, and how those stories intersect. Unecessarily complx, but not bad stories.
  • Give it more time... - Some say we should have waiting for France or the U.N. to come around, or that sanctions were working. We call these people misinformed. Sanctions have never worked at doing anything but hurting the innocent. France and the U.N. were criminally making money off the oil-for-weapons scandal so would have never put the Iraqi people over their own greed.
  • Global Massacres/Charlie Hebdo - 🇫🇷 Paris, France: two brothers, armed with illegal rifles, forced their way into the offices of Charlie Hebdo (Satire paper), and started shooting people in retaliation for the paper having a cartoon of Muhammad on their cover. There were related attacks, Hypercacher kosher supermarket attack, they killed 4 Jews and held 19 hostages.
  • Global Massacres/Germanwings Flight 9525 - 🇫🇷 Nice, France: Suicidal Andreas Lubitz flew the Lufthansa plane (from Barcelona, Spain to Düsseldorf, Germany), into the mountains near Nice. He had been declared "unfit to work" by his Doctor, but Andreas hid that, and poor regulations allowed him to lock the other pilot out of the cockpit.
  • Global Massacres/Nice truck attack - 🇫🇷 Nice, France: not to be confused with the 2015 stabbings or 2003 bombing, in 2016 Mohamed Lahouaiej-Bouhlel (Tunisian immigrant), drove a truck through Bastille Day crowds on Promenade des Anglais. ISIS/ISIL took credit for the attack.
  • Global Massacres/November Paris Attacks - 🇫🇷 Paris, France: a series of shootings, bombings, including the Bataclan theatre shooting (that killed 90). 3 groups of men committed 6 attacks (including 4 suicide bombings). Despite gun-control and illegal bombs, they had assault weapons and bombs, who knew terrorists would disobey gun control laws? Despite Turkish, Iraqi, and Israeli intelligences all warning of an imminent attack on France months beforehand, they were ignored by the French authorities.
  • Global Massacres/Paris massacre of 1961 - 🇫🇷 Paris, France: During protests against France's Algerian War, the cops were let loose on the 30-40,000 demonstrators, beating them and throwing them in the Seine river, arresting 11,000. France acknowledges 40 deaths. Estimates are at least 200 bodies were found immediately after, and 325 over that autumn. Not to mention inumerable injuries. There was also a follow-on Charonne massacre in 1962-02-08 that killed 9 more, when police flung manhole covers down a stairways to the Charonne metro station.
  • Global Massacres/UTA Flight 772 - 🇫🇷 Paris, France: Suitcase bomb in the forward hold brought a plane headed from Brazaville, Congo to Paris, France down over the Sahara Desert in Niger. 6 Libyan's were convicted in absentia, but Gaddafi would not allow them to be extradited. The motive was believed to revenge against the French for supporting Chad against the expansionist projects of Libya.
  • Never trust France - I love the French people. Their culture is mixed with great things... and narcissistic, arrogant, racist things. But France as a country is an untrustworthy ally, self-interested, inept, flip-floppy, and unwise at best. They will turn their backs on morals and ethics the moment the winds of court intrigue or fads start blowing against you.
  • Paris Climate Accord - Trump withdrew from Obama's non-binding / unconstitutional treaty. Since we were exceeding it's requirements, but nobody else was complying. And the economy and technology don't repond to political treaties, they respond to advancment. Trump agreed to consider future ones, if there's a better deal. O'Biden put is back in it anyways; fuck the economy.
  • Patriot Act - The 2002 version doens't bug me, what it might devolve into does. (Is it a slippery slope). What the Patriot Act says is that the same intrusions we allowed for the “drug war” should be allowed for “the war on terror”. This isn't horrible, if there's good checks and balances. The problem is without them, it can go bad.
  • Vietnam - As an American, Vietnam is usually talking about the war. And you can't talk about Vietnam war without talking about what lead up to the war, why it was fought, who won (and lost) the war), what were the consequences, and a lot of messiness around intentions and outcomes. This covers all of those topics.
